Modernizing Legacy Oracle Forms into High-Performance Oracle APEX
15-year-old desktop Forms architecture migrated into responsive browser-native APEX while preserving all PL/SQL business packages.
A core operational system built 15 years ago on Oracle Forms suffered from outdated Java Applet dependencies and zero mobile compatibility. Requiring local desktop clients burdened branch offices with heavy maintenance and licensing costs. Because the core system contained hundreds of thousands of lines of mission-critical PL/SQL packages, a greenfield rewrite in an unrelated language carried unacceptable operational risk.
We engineered a direct modernization roadmap to Oracle APEX, preserving existing database packages and security policies while replacing client interfaces with clean, responsive browser screens. We implemented corporate Single Sign-On (SSO) and REST bridges. Following phased User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and a 3-week parallel run, the enterprise cut over to production with zero downtime.
- Completely eliminated Java Applet and local desktop workstation dependencies.
- Empowered 150+ branch associates to access operational forms via any modern browser.
- Zero business logic re-implementation risk; minimized user retraining overhead.
- Delivered over 60% recurring savings in third-party client licensing and desk-side support.
